Firefighters tackling five acre blaze in village near Horsham

Crews are on the scene of the fire in Skiff Lane, Wisborough Green, the fire service said.

A spokesman added: “Joint Fire Control received a 999 call at 2.09pm reporting around five acres of scrubland alight, and immediately mobilised firefighters from Billingshurst, Midhurst and Arundel, along with off-road vehicles from Horsham and Petworth and the Water Carrier from Petworth.”

Firefighters are currently using two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the fire as well as beaters.

He added: “Residents living nearby are urged to keep their doors and windows closed for the time being due to the smoke in the immediate area.”
