West Sussex County Council has put forward proposals to replace the current building in Hurst Road with a new site on the A24 at Highwood.

The station would be a combined ‘blue-light operational and training centre’ with Sussex Police and would also become the base for the fire service’s Business Fire Safety team and Technical Rescue Unit.

The plans have been on display in Horsham Library since the beginning of August.

Cabinet Member for Safer, Stronger Communities, Debbie Kennard said: “I would like to thank everyone who has taken part in the consultation so far. It has been our aspiration to build a new Horsham Fire Station for over a decade. We would like to hear what people think of the proposal and would encourage them to share their views.”

As well as the new station a ‘blue-light satellite station’ will also be built close to the town centre which will be a base for on-call fire engines as well as housing a front counter for the police.

The current station, located next to Horsham Magistrates’ Court, was built in 1968 and, according to the council, is no longer able to provide the training environment needed for a modern fire service.
