Ferring library soon set to be police force’s latest base

The centre will take three weeks to build, with work commencing on the facility, in Ferring Street, on June 8.

Once completed, it’s hoped the hub will be able to offer an improved policing service, with a new room housing patrolling officers of PCSOs.

Acting district commander for Arun, Chief Inspector Justin Burtenshaw said: “This is an exciting opportunity to bring local policing into the heart of the community.

“It is important that our new police hub will enable officers to hold surgery and appointments in a location that is accessible to all. I am confident that this will be an excellent addition to the local community.”

The library will remain open throughout and the most disruptive work will be done out of hours.

The project will include an open plan area and small office for Sussex Police local volunteers and give members of the community a new point of contact for the force.

David Barling,county council cabinet member for residents’ services, said: “We have some really successful examples of police working from our other libraries elsewhere in the county – most notably in Broadfield in Crawley.

“I know that members of the local community in Ferring will welcome this initiative, and its success will be another clear indication of what can be achieved when working with our partners.”
