A father from Felpham is hoping that the community will rally around him to help him reach his fundraising target.

Don Hoare’s son Daniel was only 18 when he died from hypertrophic cardiomyopathy in November 2011.

Now, the fundraising dad is hoping to hit his £50,000 goal for the British Heart Foundation (BHF).

Don, along with friends James Mclean and James Ashman, have organised an annual golf day to raise funds for the BHF.

The sixth event, which was held in August, raised a further £3,606, bringing the total raised by the memorial golf days and friend related money raising in his memory to £40,750.

This year’s event will take place at the Bognor Regis Golf Club on the August 26, and Don Hoare is hoping that he can reach his fundraising milestone then.

Don Hoare said: “The day was put together originally to commemorate his all too short life and give friends and family the chance to celebrate it. He had been a member at Bognor Golf Club since he was eight and the members and staff all got behind the event like one huge family turning it into the success it is now. The event is becoming increasingly successful as the years go on. Both Daniel’s mother Jackie and I have been staggered by people’s generosity and kindness in the support that they have shown since Daniels passing. Should we be able to hit the £50k target it would be a wonderful testimony to his memory and give all those involved in raising this amazing sum the accolade that their endeavours deserve”.

Hannah Miller, BHF fundraising manager for Sussex, said: “We are very grateful to Don, his family, and all of Daniel’s friends who have made this such a successful event.

“Heart conditions affect thousands of people across the UK, and we believe that research holds the key to a future where no-one dies prematurely from cardiovascular disease.

“All the money raised in Daniel’s memory will be used to fund the science that can help us win the fight against heart disease and stop devastating the lives of so many families.”
