New tree planted by Society

LAST year the Horsham Society was fortunate to be chosen to take part in Waitrose’s “Community Matters” scheme, where customers choose between three good causes, and was awarded £344.

This generosity has now been returned to the town by the Society using the money to pay for a new tree in Horsham Park, to replace one that has died.

On the advice of Mark Pullen, HDC Tree & Woodlands Officer, the tree that has been chosen is a Ginkgo biloba – the Maidenhair tree. It is very long lived and will grow to a substantial height providing spectacular yellow autumn colour.

It was been planted today [March 5] near to the Leisure Centre by David Moore, Chairman of the Horsham Society, and Ross Calvert, Branch Manager of Waitrose’s Horsham store.

David Moore said: “We are delighted that through the generosity of Waitrose and its customers we can help to enhance the beauty of our wonderful Park for generations to come.”
