Farm Diary by Gwyn Jones October 6

Some rain over the past couple of days delays maize cutting. It's only just ready and many who have cut over the past fortnight have experienced effluent running from the clamp, the crop being a little green.

We start today and the next three days are forecsast dry. It will be good to get the cows on their winter diet and the giant sandwich of first-cut sileage-freshly cut maize- should lift production.

A sad occasion at the weekend where, after 11 years of supplying a co-op, first Nilk Marque, then Milklink, we have now left. Unable to stand the financial burden of the A and B pricing mechanism for milk, which meant that we some of our spring milk for close up to half the price,we now have signed up with Dairy Crest plc.
