Elderly woman hit by van sadly dies

AN ELDERLY woman hit by a van three weeks ago has sadly died police have said.

Joan Martin, 80, of Beeches Avenue, Worthing, was walking across the A27 at the junction with Shandon Road, close to Lyons Farm, on Wednesday August 21 when she was hit by a Volkswagen Transporter.

She fell backwards and banged her head on a wall.

Joan was taken to Southampton General Hospital with a fractured skull, two broken arms and internal injuries. She was transferred to Worthing Hospital but sadly died there yesterday (Wednesday, September 11).

The 38-year-old van driver, from Woodingdean, was not hurt.
