‘OUTSTANDING’ staff and students at Seaside Primary School can now relax and enjoy their summer holidays after gaining the highest possible result in their latest Ofsted inspection.
The Lancing school, with 430 pupils, was visited by Ofsted inspectors at the beginning of the month and scored top marks in every category.
The school has jumped from a grading of ‘Requires Improvement’ to Outstanding in just 21 months.
Headteacher Mr Lee Murley said he was ‘over the moon with the result’.
“Everybody’s hard work has paid off and the children are a total delight to have at Seaside which makes me incredibly proud and lucky to be the headteacher.”
Lead inspector Steven Popper praised staff members’ ‘high expectations’, which had been effective in securing outstanding behaviour, teaching and achievement in the short period of time.
“The headteacher, deputy headteacher, other leaders and governors have very high aspirations for the school,” added Mr Popper.
“Leaders use additional funding to support disadvantaged pupils highly effectively.
“The school identifies individual pupils’ needs very carefully and provides additional support where it is most needed.”
Inspectors observed lessons, assemblies and children’s behaviour at lunch and playtime.
They also scrutinised lesson plans, pupil’s notebooks and heard feedback from parents.
Deputy Headteacher Nicola Irwin said staff and students were delighted with the outcome.
“The governing body has played an intrinsic role in driving the improvements at Seaside,” she said.
“They have shared the highest possible aspirations for the school and have been determined and supportive in achieving these goals.
“As a special thank you and congratulations to the children, we arranged an ice cream van to arrive on Friday lunchtime playing the music, ‘Oh we do like to be beside the Seaside’ to give all the children a Mr Whippy ice cream and flake.
“The response from parents was overwhelmingly positive.
“Many parents spoke to the inspection team and highlighted the way in which the school viewed each of their children as individuals.”
