Getting school lunches for less

As the children go back to school, parents will be keen to make sure they eat well at lunch time without breaking the bank.

West Sussex County Council’s catering contractor Chartwells – which provides hot meals to primary schools in the county - is reminding families to book their children’s meals and are offering parents the chance to save money.

If you buy 30 meals or more per child in a single transaction for consumption between Tuesday, September 4 and Friday, October 26, each meal will cost £2 instead of the usual £2.15.

Peter Griffiths, County Council Cabinet Member who is responsible for Education and Schools, said: “As the cost of living continues to rise, this is one way we can help parents ensure that their children can enjoy a substantial and nutritious meal while at school.

“We place the utmost importance in encouraging healthy eating, and our school menus reflect this with dishes that include all of the food choices.

“During recent hygiene visits, many of our school kitchens have scored highly, which means pupils and parents can also be assured that their meals are being served in a safe environment.”
