Downland activities

STEYNING Downland Scheme has a range of activities outdoors aimed at exploring the beautiful downland around the town in different ways.

Up and coming events include:

Glowworm hunt, July 20 from 9.45pm – approx 11.15pm Hunt for this fascinating and elusive beetle which makes it’s home on our downs. Bring a torch and sturdy footwear. Meet on Mill Road, Steyning, by the Tennis Club. Donations welcome.

Mothy breakfast on July 23 from 9-10.30am at the Big Picnic Field, the Old Rifle Range, Off Mouse Lane, Steyning. See the moths that live on our local Downs, take part in some mothy craft with the Woodcraft Folk, and join in the national ‘Big Butterfly Count’ Bring a picnic breakfast and enjoy an outdoor start to the summer holidays. In association with the Sussex Moth Group.  Donations Welcome

Art Day, July 26 from 9.30am-4.30pm- Join local artists for a day of field drawing and painting on the picturesque Downs. No previous experience necessary. Please bring your own materials, equipment and picnic lunch. Must book: contact, 01903 814718 Donations welcome

Bushcraft Days on August 15 for eight-11-year-olds from 10am-3pm and on August 22 for 14-year-olds from 10am-3.30pm.

Explore the outdoors with shelter building, cooking over fire, treasure hunts and more. Must book:  contact 01903 814718 Cost:£8,in advance.  Joining details provided on booking.In association with Steyning Grammar Forest School.
