A 23-year-old man from East Grinstead died when his car left the road and hit a wall in Ashurstwood yesterday (Saturday, August 1), police said.

At around 11.55pm a black Toyota Celica being driven by the man crashed as it travelled south in Wall Hill Road.

The car left the road and hit a wall. The driver died at the scene, police confirmed.

Police believe they know the identity of the man who died but he has not been formally identified.

An appeal for witnesses to come forward has been launched.

Sergeant Tony Crisp, of Sussex and Surrey roads policing unit, said: “We are keen to speak to anyone who saw the crash happen or who saw the Toyota being driven in the minutes beforehand.

“An investigation has been launched to determine exactly what happened.
