East Grinstead home severely damaged by fire

A house was severely damaged in East Grisntead yesterday (Wednesday (September 4) by fire.

Firefighters were called to the home in Canstron Lane, Ashurst Wood just after 4.30pm.

The two-floor detached house’s roof was well alight with all of the roof space involved and 70 per cent of the first floor.

The fire was brought under control and put out by fire crews who also spent time cutting away, damping down and with salvage work.

The resulting damage to property is 75 per cent of the roof and 100 per cent of first floor severely damaged by fire, 70 per cent of ground floor damaged by water and debris from the collapse of the upper floor.

The cause of fire isn’t known yet.

In the end fire crews were called from East Grinstead, Crawley, Haywards Heath, Turners Hill, Steyning, Burgess Hill, Horsham, Uckfield, Godstone and Croydon.
