Early summer show exhibits survive harsh winds

Growers battled blustery weather conditions in the run-up to Shoreham Horticultural and Allotment Society's early summer show.

Despite the conditions last week, they managed to produce tables full of sweet peas, roses and pinks at the Shoreham Centre on Saturday.

Along with pot plants and early vegetables, visitors could also see exhibits of homecrafts and photography.

The society’s next show will be held on Saturday, August 12, at the Shoreham Centre.

Show results

Alasdair MacCulloch won the Len Speller Shield for the rose classes, the Brenda Young Cup for sweet pea classes and the National Sweet Pea Society Bronze Medal.

Julie MacCulloch won the Thornberry Challenge Cup for pinks.

Helen Swyer won the Maurice Spinks Memorial Trophy for cut flowers, Bill Hobbs Memorial Challenge Bowl for pot plants and the red rosette for best flower or pot plant in show.

Jayne Pumfrey own the Jubilee Trophy for one vegetable, one flower, and the green rosette for best vegetable in show.

Barry Hillman won the R.R. Ebbetts Challenge Shield for vegetables and fruits.

Mary Green won the Caroline Cup for homecrafts.

Ian Swyer won the W. Earl Shield for best print.

Lorraine Saunders won the Dunn Memorial Cup for floral art.

Elaine Bliss won the Novice Floral Art Diploma
