The Santa Fe gun-slingers made a welcome return to Buckingham Park in Shoreham, thrilling the crowds with a gunfight re-enactment, and the birds of prey were also popular, in particular the eagle owl.

Lion Susan Saunders said: “For once the wind eased and the sun showed itself as things got underway.

“The donkeys were a great draw and many young children had their first ride on one.

“The Classic Vehicle Rally consisted of 50 classic vehicles, along with several stationary engines, which also drew admiring crowds.”

Local businesses supported the club by advertising in the programme, sponsoring the races and providing cakes for the cake stall.

Tesco Express manager David Rai and employee Jaye Caulfield dressed as Minions to deliver 100 croissants and cheese straw. Higgidy Pies provided sausage rolls and Southover Foods donated cakes.

Susan added: “Club members will be deciding on donations to local youth groups who helped out at the event and also using the rest of the proceeds for charitable and service projects in the community.”

The club is still trying to track down the owner of the winning programme, number 00819, and a £300 prize awaits.
