Police are reminding dog owners and walkers to keep their dogs under control after two sheep were attacked in Slindon.

PC Steve Self said: “Thankfully the owner left their contact details at the location and was traced.

“It appears that the dog ran off from the owner and was missing for a considerable amount of time and was then found by another member of the public who managed to tie the dog up

“Dog owners have a responsibility to keep their dogs under control and this incident should act as a reminder as to why there is legislation in place. Losing livestock can have a huge emotional and financial affect on farmers.

“Landowners also have the right as a last resort to destroy any dog worrying livestock so owners are also putting their pets at risk. Sussex Police and land owners do not want to discourage members of the public from enjoying the countryside but we do want to remind dog owners of their responsibility.”
