Police thanks motorists for patience after fatal Sidlesham collision

Sussex Police Roads Policing Unit has thanked motorists and the local community for their patience during the closure of Street End Road at Sidlesham on Friday (September 28).

The road was closed after a fatal collision at around 7.10am where bales of straw from a tractor trailers fell onto an oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the vehicle, a 70-year-old man from Portsmouth died.

The road was closed for a considerable time as the emergency services extracted the the driver of an Alfa Romeo car from his vehicle, and specialist recovery equipment was required for the tractor, the damaged trailer and its load of straw bales.

A 25-year-old man from Selsey was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, and has since been released on police bail until January 9, 2013.

Police are appealing for witnesses and would ask anyone who saw the collision take place or saw any of the vehicles involved immediatley before to contact Sussex Police quoting Operation Dovecot.
