Police appeal after armed raid on Haywards Heath flats

THE search is on for two men who broke into flats in Haywards Heath and threatened residents with knives.

Police are appealing for anyone who was in the South Road and Church Road area of Haywards Heath at about 12.45am this morning (Sunday April 29) and who may have seen two men running from an alleyway that connects the two roads at their western ends, near the one-way road system at the top of Perrymount Road.

They may have got into a vehicle.

Moments earlier the pair had forced their way into two adjacent flats overlooking South Road, threatened the occupants with knives and stolen two mobile phones.

Both men are described as white. One is about 5ft 6in and of thin build. He had on a navy coloured jacket, with the hood up, and black coloured combat trousers. He was wearing a black stocking over his face and had some kind of goggles on his head above his eyes.

The second man is about 5ft 2in and of slightly stockier build than the first man. He was wearing a black jacket, with a white hooded top underneath, and with the hood up. He was also wearing a black stocking over his face. He wore grey jogging bottoms with white trainers.

Detective Inspector Sarah Barrett said; “We are still establishing the full circumstances of this incident, which was very frightening for the people concerned, and we would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time. If you can help please call 101 and quote serial 0100 of 29/4. You can also call independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
