Mystery attack in Crawley

Police are seeking information about a mystery attack in Crawley town centre

It took place in Corals betting shop, in Crawley High Street, at about 4.30pm on Sunday December 2.

The victim ran into the shop pursued by three men, all of whom had their faces covered.

They were carrying weapons, believed to be metal poles, golf clubs and spanners. They repeatedly attacked the victim with the weapons, hitting him around the body, face and head, chasing him round the shop for some 90 seconds and throwing chairs at him, knocking over furniture in the process.

They then fled, leaving the victim with a bloodied head and face. He left a few minutes later, apparently reluctant to engage with staff or to phone the police.

PC Ben Easton said: “At this stage we do not known the motive for this vicious attack, or who the attackers or the victim are. We are urging the victim to come forward and contact us and we also urge anybody else with information to speak to us. Contact us via 101 quoting serial 0985 of 2 December, or you can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously via 0800 555 111.”
