Major Horsham fire: Police launch appeal for witnesses

Police have launched an appeal after a major fire destroyed acres of grassland near Horsham

Officers were called by fire crews to a blaze in Old Wickhurst Lane in Horsham at 4.45pm on Tuesday (11 August), police said. A large grassy area was burnt but no injuries were reported.

A spokesman added: “Two 14-year-old boys were arrested on suspicion of arson and have been released under investigation.

“Officers are working to identify two additional male suspects who may have been involved in the incident.”

Detective Sergeant Joanna Duncan said: “We’re appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time or who saw what happened to come forwards and speak to us.

“We suspect that this fire was started deliberately and it is fortunate that nobody was hurt and that this did not become a much more serious incident.
