Colette McBeth (pictured) is a former BBC news reporter who has written a psychological thriller, and Felix Francis is the younger son of legendary jockey and thriller writer Dick Francis.

For more than 40 years Felix helped Dick research and write his novels. Crossfire was the novel Dick and Felix Francis were working on when Dick died in February 2010, marking the end of one chapter and the beginning of another in the Dick Francis novel franchise.

‘I grew up in a house where breakfast talk would be about the damage a bullet might do to a man’s guts rather than the more mundane topics of everyday life,’ says Felix.

‘Refusal’, Felix’s third solo ‘Dick Francis’ novel, is a tale of deadly intrigue set around race fixing. His previous novels, Gamble and Bloodline, were top ten best-sellers and worldwide sales of ‘Dick Francis novels’ now top 75 million.

Colette McBeth’s ‘Precious Thing’ is a very different kind of thriller. This former BBC news reporter has written a dark psychological read based on friendship.

Her protagonist, Rachel, is also a news reporter, called back to her hometown of Brighton to investigate the disappearance of a young woman. What she conceals from her colleagues is that the missing woman is her best friend - but just who can you trust?

The Book Lovers’ Supper Club welcomes anyone of any age, alone or in a group, to join fellow foodies and book lovers over a delicious vegetarian supper and a free glass of wine. An informal supper is followed by a talk and reading from the authors and the opportunity for the audience to get involved by asking their own

questions.

Discounted copies of the author’s books will be supplied by The Mint House, Hurstpierpoint.

Founder and organiser of The Book Lovers’ Supper Club is Melanie Whitehouse, a journalist, author and Ditchling resident.

She said: “I am thrilled to be kicking off the autumn with Felix Francis, and Colette McBeth. We’re also ringing the changes on our food, which this time is based on a Middle Eastern theme from the wonderful Oz at Sultans’ Delight in Brighton.”
