Police have issued an image of a man they would like to question in relation to a sexual assault in East Grinstead.

The image is of a man who sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman as she walked with a friend in Holtye Road at 2.30am on Sunday morning (August 12).

DS Dave Morton said: “We have issued this Efit in the hope that someone may recognise the man and come forward. We are making a number of enquiries in an effort to identify him and would appreciate any information from the public. In the meantime we have stepped up patrols in the town centre for reassurance.”

Earlier on Sunday morning, at 1.50am, a 20-year-old woman was also approached as she walked home from the nightclub.

She was walking in Highfield Road when she was approached from behind by a man who grabbed her arm. She turned and hit the man, who then fled.

Police believe this was the same man who is as described white, in his mid 40s, of medium build, about 5ft 9in to 5ft 11in with short dark hair. He wore a white T shirt and light coloured jeans. He was also described as twitchy.

DS Dave Morton said: “I want people to be vigilant and call police on 999 if they see anyone acting suspiciously in the area. If anyone has any information that could help us in our inquiry they should contact police on 101.

“I would also like to remind people when out at night to look out for their friends and make arrangements to get home.”
