Couple robbed in Burgess Hill at knife-point

A Burgess Hill couple were robbed in their home by a knife-wielding intruder.

The incident happened at about 8.45pm on Sunday (September 16) at the house in Gatehouse Lane, Burgess Hill.

A man forced his way in through the front door, threatened the husband and wife, who are both in their eighties, with a knife, demanded money and escaped with £25.

The couple were badly shaken and were checked over by paramedics at the scene, but were not physically injured.

The suspect is described as white, aged between 25 and 30, slim, about 6ft tall, clean shaven, wearing a dark baseball cap, a navy and white horizontal striped polo shirt, navy trousers and light coloured trainers.

Detective Sergeant Jon Pink said; “This was a frightening ordeal for the couple, who were both very upset. We need to find this man. Anyone who was in the Gatehouse Lane area on Sunday evening and saw anything suspicious, or who has any other information, is asked to get in touch with us right away via 101 quoting serial 1578 of 16/9. “Incidents like this are very rare and we are making intensive enquiries to find the offender as quickly as possible.”
