Concern is growing for the welfare of a 75-year-old dementia sufferer who disappeared from East Preston, near Littlehampton, on Monday afternoon (September 17).

Sylvia Long left her home in Roundstone Drive at 11.30am and was last seen by a neighbour at 2.30pm, telling him that she was going to a local shop. She has not been seen since.

Detective Constable Russ King said: “Given the rain that’s fallen overnight, we are obviously extremely concerned that Sylvia was not dressed for the wet and cold when she left home.

“She was last seen wearing a skirt, white cardigan and green blouse. She is white, 5ft 4in, of slight build, with mousy, greying collar-length hair.

“Her disappearance is completely out of character. We have had a number of police units looking for her overnight and a police helicopter has also been involved in the search, both inland and along the seashore. If you see her or think you have seen her at any time since yesterday afternoon, please call us on 101 quoting serial 1514 of 17/09. If she is in danger or requires medical attention, please call 999 immediately.”
