Suzi said: “I am what you would call a crazy dog lady. I cannot pass a dog in the street without saying hello and I accept doggy kisses willingly. I have my own dog as well, a German sheperd named Kiki.

“This sponsored swim incorporates my two loves in life – swimming and dogs. I chose Battersea Dogs and Cats Home as they do such amazing work to help rehome dogs and cats to lovely new homes. It’s an absolute pleasure to be raising money for such a worthy cause.”

The three-mile swim, 192 lengths of the Littlehampton pool, will take place on Monday, December 21, from 11am to around 4pm.

Suzi works with people who have learning difficulties and are housed in supported living accommodation.

She also works as a pet and house sitter, known as an auntie, and looks after people’s house and animals while they are away.

“My hobbies are cross stitch sewing, swimming, dog walking and going to the cinema,” she added.

Swimming is my favourite hobby, I love it. I go to my local pool every day.”

Suzi has already raised more than £300, which was her initial target. Visit www.justgiving.com/susanschallenge to make a donation.

A spokesman for Battersea Dogs and Cats Home said: “We aim to never turn away a dog or cat in need of help, caring for them until their owners or loving new homes can be found, no matter how long it takes.

“We are champions for, and supporters of, vulnerable dogs and cats, determined to create lasting changes for animals in our society.”
