AN ELDERLY woman was the victim of a distraction burglary after she answered the door to a couple yesterday (Thursday, January 30).

The lady opened the door of her property, in Thakeham Drive, Goring, to a man and woman, who asked to come in.

The man asked to use the toilet, while the woman sat with the elderly woman in the living room.

The woman became suspicious after they left and upon checking her bedroom, she found £100 cash and some jewellery had gone.

Detective constable Jamie Carruthers said: “The man is described as being white, in his 40s, between 5’ 8” and 5’ 11” and stocky. The woman is described also as white and her 40s with long straight brown hair tied back in a ponytail. Did you see this pair in the Thakeham Drive area of Worthing yesterday?

“These people have taken advantage of this woman by leading her to believe she knows them. If you are not sure who people are at your door, don’t let them in and ring someone you trust. If you feel suspicious call the police on 101.

“If anyone has any details on these people or saw anything which might help, please contact police on 101 or email quoting serial 1097 of 30/1.”
