Councillor allowances

ONCE the local elections are over we can expect councillors to embark on another round of cost-cutting which will hit public services.

May I suggest that they start with their own over-generous allowances.

For example, Arun District Council Members pocketed about £428,00 in 2009/10 with some getting more than £13,000 a year - a nice little earner for a part-time job.

A cut of 20 per cent in allowances should not be too much to ask for in these difficult times. Council taxpayers expect their representatives to lead by example.
