DESPITE saying it was ‘not looking’ to open a store in Chichester, TK Maxx is due to open in East Street.
The discount brand retailer has submitted a planning application to install signs on the front of the former shopping arcade Little London Walk.
The old arcade – previously Sadlers Walk – has been knocked down and rebuilt as a single building.
It will have two entrances – one in East Street, the other Little London.
Despite attempts by the Observer to contact TK Maxx, it has not responded to requests for information since April, 2014, when the Observer first made contact.
In 2014, when the paper reported TK Maxx was due to move in, the company was contacted on Twitter by someone who wrote: “This makes me ridiculously sad.
“Can you not please. I want Sadlers walk back.”
“I can confirm that we’re not looking to open a store there so I’m sorry if they’ve given you the wrong information,” replied the chain.
A spokeswoman later told the Observer: ““We are unable to confirm the addition of a TK Maxx store to the city centre at the this time. We will let customers know of any future TK Maxx developments in due course.”
