COMPOSTER PLANS SLAMMED AS GROTESQUE

PLANS for a giant composting centre-the size of two football pitches- in the small hamlet of Poling were thrown out this week, in the face of all-out local opposition and a warning about the impact on the only children's hospice in West Sussex.

The county council's planning committee voted yesterday (Tuesday) to refuse permission for the scheme on the 2.5 hectare site of the former Blue Prince mushroom farm in Arundel Rad.

One county councillor declared that it would be a monstrosity, seen for miles around and another called it 'grotesque'.

Planning officers recommended approval but all of the committee members escept one who abstained, were against.
