17 year old Abigail Gaynor is studying Catering and Hospitality at Chichester College, and turned her attention to the castle when she was tasked with creating a business venture as part of her Level 3 qualification. Abigail works part time at the castle when she is not at college. Abigail aimed to promote and increase the sales of speciality coffee in Arundel Castle’s restaurant, by offering every customer purchasing a cup of coffee a free handcrafted biscuit.

Catering manager Libby Gilbank commented: “We were delighted to be able to support Abigail’s project – and our visitors were very pleased too! Abigail has so much talent, I’ve got her down as the next Mary Berry in the making!

“The initiative was a total triumph. Sales of our speciality coffees increased by 10% and feedback from our happy customers was very positive, so full marks to Abigail from us!”

Building on her baking success at the Castle, Abigail has set her career ambitions high – she hopes to become one of the country’s leading chefs, ultimately owning her own Michelin starred restaurant.

Arundel Castle is currently closed after an action-packed season of events. It will reopen to visitors on April 1, with another great schedule including its renowned Annual Tulip Festival in the spring and the thrilling International Joust and Medieval Tournament Week in July.
