Adur Athletic Football Club manger James Lindeck seized an opportunity with his employer, Small Dole firm Mackley.

The result was the sponsorship of the club’s shirts and the start of a new relationship between the two.

David Knapp, business development and marketing manager at Mackley, in Henfield Road, explained: “While our managing director, Tony Camilleri, was visiting our very prestigious Molesey Weir project, he was ‘cheekily’ approached by James and asked for some money to sponsor his team’s shirts.

“The timing was perfect (we’d just been paid) and the deal was struck. We have since forged a superb relationship with the club which coincides with their excellent start to the season.”

Founded in 1931, Mackley is a specialist civil engineering marine contractor.

Mr Knapp said: “We were recently acquired by Van Oord, a specialist dredging company from Holland.

“With exciting and challenging times ahead, we continually look to support local clubs, charities, events and fundraising organisations.”

The football club announced the sponsorship deal on its website last Friday: “The club is pleased to announce that Mackley’s, civil engineers, Small Dole, have kindly sponsored our Men’s Sunday Team.”

Adur Athletic aims to provide teams for all ages, male and female.

The club is now looking for a sponsor for its newest team, the under-ten girls. They need a kit and rain jackets. Email [email protected] with offers of help.
