Charitable pilot set for marathon

Daniel Bertorelli will be running the 26.2-mile course in April for Leukaemia Care, a national blood cancer charity.

The 25-year-old airline pilot is running the London Marathon after witnessing close friends and their children go through a leukaemia diagnosis.

Daniel said: “Last year I wanted to set myself a challenge and, due to the lack of running in my past, a marathon seemed like the sensible decision. What better marathon than the London Marathon in 2018.

“I wanted to do it for charity, but was overwhelmed with the number of charities I could potentially run for.

“I’ve witnessed two cases of leukaemia either affecting close friends directly or their children, which is how I came across Leukaemia Care.”

Clare Brooks, who works with the marathon runners at Leukaemia Care, said: “Our runners make all the difference to people who need that bit extra support. I’ve followed all our runners, including Daniel, from the point of sign up and I can’t wait for Daniel to cross that finishing line.”

As part of his training, Daniel completed the Barns Green Half Marathon last September. He added: “My training is currently going great. My main concern is injury, as I got shin splints seven to eight months ago.”
