Cashpoints throughout county hit by cloned card frauds

FRAUDSTERS have been targeting street cashpoint machines in West Sussex, cloning cards used by customers and getting away with thousands of pounds.

A spate of incidents has been recorded at cashpoints outside Barclays banks in Old Mill Drive, Storrington, High Street, Henfield, and the main branch in Worthing.

Other major banks have also suffered, with outdoor cashpoints targeted throughout the county by fraudsters using increasingly sophisticated equipment to clone bank, credit and saver account cards.

In some cases, where customers used cards from savings accounts to withdraw cash the incidents did not come to light for several weeks until another withdrawal was made or a quarterly or half-yearly statement arrived.
