Campaign to cut fuel costs

A national campaign to help people cut their fuel costs and carbon footprint is being backed by West Sussex County Council.

Liftshare Week, which runs from Monday, October 1 to Friday, October 5, is designed to prove the financial and environmental benefits of car sharing.

The campaign encourages people to use local car sharing websites - such as – which matches people who share similar journeys.

The website can be used for any journey and is ideal for regular trips to work.

Two thousand motorists in West Sussex have already signed up and agreed to share lifts, which has saved them up to £1,000 a year.

Crawley and Gatwick are currently the most popular car sharing destinations in the county, with 2,500 journeys available for sharing.

There are 468 journeys available to share to Chichester, 294 journeys to Horsham, and 131 journeys to Haywards Heath.
