Campaign on responsible drinking launched

People in West Sussex are being urged to drink responsibly as part of a new campaign to crack down on public disorder.

The Think Safe, Drink Safe campaign was launched last Thursday in Worthing by Jean Irving head of the Violent Crime Team for West Sussex.,

She said: "We think West Sussex is a safe place to live and the main thing is to keep it that way. We want to reduce public place violent crime and part of that is this campaign. It does not ban people from drinking alcohol '“ that would never be realistic or feasible '“ but we can ask people to stay safe by taking some simple steps."

"If we can get people thinking about pacing themselves when they drink and going home safely then we will be doing our job."

A series of six posters will be delivered to all pubs and clubs throughout the county encouraging people not to drink to excess, to respect residents by not being disruptive when leaving and staying with friends for safety. Other messages are to protect drinks against spiking and to say no.
