Bognor woman in court on suspicion of murdering her baby

A Bognor Regis woman has appeared in court charged with murdering her new born baby.

Gintare Suminaite, 29, of Aldwick Road, Bognor, appeared at Crawley Magistrates’ Court on Monday and then Lewes Crown Court on Tuesday.

Suminaite, from Lithuania, did not enter a plea and followed proceedings with the aid of a translator.

Police said an ambulance was called to a home in Aldwick Road at 8.37am on Wednesday, April 6.

A new born baby girl was confirmed dead at the scene and the mother taken to St Richard’s Hospital, Chichester, for urgent medical treatment.

Suminaite was arrested on suspicion of murder when she was released from hospital and charged.

She has been remanded in custody and is due to appear at Lewes Crown Court on June 28.
