The Harting Horticultural Society held its Annual Spring Show last Saturday.
Hosted at the Community Hall on Tipper Lane from 2.30pm to 4pm, the event showcased exhibits of flowers, cooking, and crafts.
Vivien de Beer, society member, said: “Unsurprisingly with the recent weather the exhibits of flowers were down this year but nevertheless what there was made a colourful display.
“The cookery and photographic sections had an increase in numbers and Harting has numerous wonderful cooks.”
The Lady Wallace Challenge Cup was awarded to Stephen Hugh-Jones, who also placed first in several categories in Section One: Narcissi, whilst the Charles Cooper Challenge Cup went to Clare Twisk and Liz Cordery.
Roth Bonner took home the President’s Cup, and Sue Wright was awarded the Reg Budd Memorial Cup for best exhibit.
In the children’s section, Bea Northey was awarded the Jean Bird Cup. Bea took home two other first place awards for her handicrafts, and Darcie-Rose Betteridge placed first for her paper towel tube decorated with pasta and pules.
There was also a number of photography categories: something beginning with G, black and white, Let’s Eat, and Dusk.
In Section Two: Spring Flowers, Jane Whitaker placed first for her vase of polyanthus, primroses and primula, while Clare Twiss came out top in two categories: vase of hellebores and vase of flowering shrubs or trees.
The third section, which covered food and handicrafts, saw Heather Shearing take home first place for her Simnel cake on a plate, as well as Tim Bonner place first in the piece of handicraft category.
