Biker dies after crash

A BIKER has died following a crash at Fontwell yesterday afternoon (Saturday May 30).

The man, who is thought to be local, died following a collision with a red Volvo estate car on the eastbound carriageway of the A27 between Slindon and Arundel which happened just before 2pm.

The rider suffered severe injuries and was flown by air ambulance to King George Hospital in London where he later died.

The driver of the car, also thought to be local, was rushed to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester with a head injury.

The accident led to the A27 Arundel Road at Fontwell and the A284 Arundel bypass being closed, with traffic diverted through Bury and Amberley.

Police are appealing for any witnesses to contact Sgt Stuart Goodwin at the road policing department in Chichester on 0845 6070999, quoting Operation Walworth.
