Author's story enthuses Worthing pupils

He told the children in years three to six how he had become a writer and what inspired him to write.

Sophie Gumbrill, the English co-ordinator, said: “He even showed the front cover of his latest book for the first time as an exclusive to West Park.

“The children enjoyed hearing extracts read aloud from his books and taking part in some drama activities during the workshops.

“They also had the opportunity to have books signed to take home.”

The former journalist is a football fanatic and he penned his first children’s book, Alfie Jones and a Change of Fortune, about the beautiful game after being made redundant seven years ago. The books are aimed at children aged eight to 12, although parents also identify with Alfie’s hopes and dreams.

David studied creative writing and publishing studies at Middlesex University and started his own company, RDF Publishing, with wife, Rebecca.

Miss Gumbrill added: “Lots of the children came out of the session really excited and enthused to have a go at writing their own stories.”
