Arctic Convoy veterans from the Second World War are honoured at Worthing ceremony

BRAVE World War Two veterans were finally honoured with medals for their role in the ‘Arctic Convoys’, 68 years after the war ended, at a ceremony in Worthing Town Hall on Thursday.

Robert Adams, 90, Ron Curtis MBE, 88, Horace Dearlove, 89, and Clement Hughes, 86, were personally presented with the ‘Arctic Star’ by MP for East Worthing and Shoreham, Tim Loughton, while medals for Harold James Cave, Geoffrey Curd, Albert Grubb, and Gerald Moore were presented to family members on their behalf by Mr Loughton.

The Arctic convoys saw the servicemen carry vital supplies from the UK, Iceland, and North America to northern ports in the Soviet Union, namely Archangel and Murmansk.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Adams, of King Edward Avenue, in Worthing, said: “I think it’s excellent. I would say on behalf of everyone here that it’s well deserved. It’s a shame that it’s gone on for so long.”
