A DUO entertained St Mary’s House with an ‘amusing’ afternoon learning about young Victoria.

The Making of a Queen was an event by Timespan; a couple which provided a Victorian day in the gardens and tea room of St Mary’s House, Bramber.

The audience were entertained by Tony and Lizzie Gilks with stories and period costumes, travelling back in time to hear about the life of Queen Victoria.

Gillian Downham, Friends of St Mary’s House events, said: “It was held in the Victorian Music Room and the entertainment. Timespan gave us some interesting and amusing information about the young Victoria. They showed us various artefacts, some original, some modern reproductions, but all great to see. With a Victorian tea held in the tea room, it gave us time to chat about what we had seen.”

Gillian added: “The afternoon was informative and certainly amusing, even if Queen Victoria may ‘not have been amused’ and we thank Lizzie and Tony for their research and production of a great afternoon.”

The event raised funds to go towards the maintenance of the house.
