Video: Summers Place, Billingshurst, hosts St Catherine’s Hospice fundraising fair

The volunteers of the New Horizons Appeal had a lot to be happy about last Thursday as the sun came out for the NHA Garden and Local Produce Fair in aid of St Catherine’s Hospice at Summers Place, Billingshurst.

The weather had been dark with clouds and rain, but they disappeared allowing over 900 visitors to enjoy the wonderful array of plants and local produce stalls on the lawns.

Visitors took breakfast, lunch and afternoon tea amongst the pleasing garden statutory of Summers Place Auctions before wheeling purchases to the car park using the fleet of wheelbarrow kindly loaned by Nye Builders.

Sally Pavey, volunteer organiser for New Horizons Appeal, said: “A special horticultural thank you to BBC’s Pippa Greenwood for opening the fair and Tom Coward of Gravetye Manor for his most enjoyable talk on gardening. They both gave their time to support our hospice appeal.”

The fair would not go ahead without the support of the residents of Summers Place, and Summers Place Auctions, who permitted the fair to take place in such grand surroundings, and Berkeley Homes and Strutt and Parker who financially support the fair.

Sue Crofts, New Horizons Appeal volunteer organiser, said: “We were absolutely delighted with the marvellous support we received at the fair.

“Lots of wonderful stalls, happy shoppers and amazing volunteers made for a great day raising funds for St Catherine’s. A very big thank you to everyone.”

Pippa Greenwood of BBC Gardeners’ Question Time cut the ribbon with shears to officially open the fair.
