Guildford’s The Electric Theatre is promising a packed summer programme of workshops for young people for the summer holidays.
Spokeswoman Caroline Bennett said: “This year the Theatre is offering more opportunities than ever to get involved in all aspects of the theatre from acting, singing and dancing through to backstage activities.
“The Theatre is hosting very special courses in July and August, further building on its reputation for offering fantastic family activities in the area.
“The Guildford Summer Youth Project returns after last year’s productions of Guys And Dolls Jr and Oklahoma with even more summer theatre courses. This year will see the first two-week project where young people will have the chance to perform the classic musical Oliver.
“Taking place between Monday, August 1 and Saturday 13, participants will spend two weeks rehearsing and learning this popular show under the guidance of a highlyskilled, professional production team. At the end of the two weeks, there will be three fully-staged performances at The Electric Theatre to a paying audience, from Thursday, August 11 to Saturday 13.”
Other Guildford Summer Youth Project workshops include Disney’s High School Musical Jr where young people have the chance to put on a show in a week.
“Bursting with energy and catchy tunes, this popular show is suitable for ages 8 to 16 years and runs from Monday, July 25 to Friday 29. New to The Electric Theatre this year is a week-long workshop specifically for ages five to eight years, running from Monday, August 8 to Friday 12. With jazzy toe-tapping songs and a delightful story, Disney’s The Aristocats Kids will enthral, entertain and challenge young children. The children will be taught by a professional team and will present a full performance onstage at The Electric Theatre to family and friends on the final day.”
