The Market Square pub was closed for around three weeks while the beer garden, kitchen and indoor seating areas were given a makeover, and opened again on Saturday (June 14).

Jamie and Amanda McLoughlan, who have owned the pub for around 14 months, are to offer food from a brand new ‘street food’ menu, and Amanda said she ‘loves’ the pub’s new look.

She said: “I absolutely love it and already the trade is improving.

“The trade has significantly improved, maybe by 25 per cent already, since we re-opened on Saturday.”

Amanda also has plans to host small functions in the pub.

The new menu takes inspiration from the tapas style.

Amanda said: “When we started here it was a bit run down, so we did our own little quick fit.

“At the start of July we will be serving from our ‘street food’ menu.

“It is a mix of the old with the new and I think it blends in well together.”

The Bear recently won an award for the best beer gardent in the South of England, defeating around 460 opponents.

In addition, staff have received commendations from Horsham in Bloom for a floral display, and for the quality of beer, which includes Hall and Woodhouse ales.

The pub also has three televisions and will be showing World Cup matches over the next three weeks.
