Downlands is top of the class

Downlands Community School has officially confirmed outstanding GCSE results this year, with 77.3 per cent of pupils gaining five or more A*-C grades including English and Maths.

National computer glitches held up some official results on the day, but the Hassocks secondary school, one of the star performers in West Sussex, has confirmed that the pass rate in both English and Mathematics was 84 per cent with 29 pupils gaining A* in English.

For some pupils, achievements in Maths were beyond GCSE, approaching A Level standard.
