Shell Henfield has been rebuilt and will once again be serving the local community with a range of Shell products and services, and also Costa Coffee.

To mark the opening, it will be hosting a number of giveaways and an on-site promotion on August 22. Shell Henfield says the first 100 customers on the day will be offered a free Regular Costa Coffee and a Danish pastry; customers visiting between 11am and 1pm will be offered a free sausage roll; and throughout the day it will be surprising fuel customers at random with Shell fuel vouchers as prizes in a Lucky Pump Promotion.

Motorists will also benefit from the Shell Attended Service. Shell Henfield will join 300 Shell service stations in offering this free service to customers; it is designed to help drivers with advice on fuels and fuel efficiency, basic car care and safety tips.

Richard Horne, Shell Territory Manager London and the Home Counties, said: “It’s great Shell Henfield is back serving the local community and I’m delighted Shell Attended Service will be one of the ways we will be helping motorists here.

“I would like to thank the local community for their patience and support during the redevelopment.”

Shell Henfield closed in January 2011 after routine tests discovered soil contamination prior to minor alteration works. Further tests were carried out during 2011 and 2012 and in June 2012 environmental remediation work was carried out. In January 2013, the redevelopment of Shell Henfield began.

A Shell spokesperson said: “Shell takes these issues very seriously and has worked closely with the Local Authority, Environment Agency, and site neighbours to ensure the works caused the minimum of disruption. Shell will continue to environmentally monitor in accordance with the plans agreed with the Local Town Planning authority.”

In November 2012, angry traders and residents gathered outside the derelict site after Shell announced that the gas station would not be open until the following autumn.

Mike Beardall, chairman of Henfield Enterprise, said people had to travel to Bolney, Buckbarn, and almost to Brighton to get petrol since the petrol station closed.

He added: “It’s been a hell of an inconvenience.

“Everyone is looking forward to buying petrol in the village and we hope it will increase foot fall to the village shops.”
