‘Boot camps’ to help entrepreneurs and small firms

Specialist ‘start-up boot camps’ will be held this month at the Children and Family Centre, Billingshurst.

The camps, taking place in Billingshurst on Saturday November 23 and Sunday 24, are aimed at helping small businesses grow and expand, and at helping hopeful entrepreneurs who are looking to start a company or develop an idea.

University business start-up manager Gareth Sear said: “Our aim is that people who attend the boot camps come away with the ability to vocalise and plan their company, setting the foundations for a successful start-up.

“They are part of the Be the Business scheme, funded by West Sussex County Council, which also offers funds for new and established firms in the region.”

As part of the new boot camp scheme, the University is also holding monthly networking events to help businesses in the county become successful.

The free events, which include lecturers and experts from the institution, are held at its Dome Enterprise Centre in Bognor Regis on the last Wednesday of each month.

David Hayes, owner of West Sussex business Solutions Warehouse, has been attending the networking events since they started last year.

He said: “I have found them to be inspiring occasions with engaging speakers who are prepared to share their knowledge to help other owners.

“They are a great way to boost your business and, in the time I have been attending them, I have made some good connections.”
