Work has been going on behind the scenes for some time, according to town planning manager at the Brookhouse Group, Tom Whitehead.

However, work has started gathering speed with a buzz of activity now visible on the site on the north-eastern side of Chichester.

“It’s been a long, slow process, these things are,” Mr Whitehead said. “But the occupiers are excited and looking forward to delivering the development.”

Phase one of the development is due to be completed next year, with Wickes, Halfords and a soon-to-be-announced retailer moving in about May/June.

At the same time, work is also ongoing on the phase two area of the site on the other side of the River Lavant.

Mr Whitehead said Aldi was also due to be moving into this site about the same time as Wickes and Halfords.

“We’re all on track and we’re pleased with progress,” he said.

“We’ve been working in the background for a while.

“There’s been a lot of ecological work to complete but it’s also a difficult site in terms of ground conditions.”
