Will’s perfect professional start

Chichester’s Will Tierney has fallen on his feet for his professional debut - a part in the hugely-successful touring rock ‘n’ roll musical Dreamboats And Petticoats.

Will plays bass guitar/Colin in the show in which the actors are their own band for a jaunt through classics including Happy Birthday Sweet 16, Let It Be Me, Great Pretender, C’mon Everybody and Let’s Twist Again.

Will went into rehearsals just a couple of days before Christmas and opened at Guildford in January. The show plays the Theatre Royal Brighton from March 5-10 (08448 717 650).

Will, a former pupil at Chichester High School for Boys, is contracted until May, but with talk of European dates being added, Will is keen to see where it takes him.

“The tour is booked up until November.”

But for the moment, he’s relishing a great start to his professional career, following in the footsteps of big sister Emily who is in the West End with the Wizard Of Oz.

“I went to the Boys High School and then Chichester College where I did a popular music BTEC national diploma, and then I went to Salford University and did music and performing arts. While I was there, I got myself into a band called The Bora which is named after the wind that blows over the Adriatic. I am still lead singer and songwriter with that.

“We got some good gigs and I got a lot of my live experience doing that. I finished university last year and moved to London and did a job doing office admin for about three months. In the meantime, I was doing auditions, and I got myself this job just before Christmas - my professional debut.

“I didn’t know quite what was going to happen when I moved to London. There were four rounds of auditions for this. The final one was in front of (producer) Bill Kenwright himself in his office. It was quite a daunting experience! I don’t think my family could quite believe it when I got the job!”
