There's something for everyone at Burgess Hill's Summer Festival

The countdown has started to Burgess Hill's Summer Festival, which begins on Saturday, June 4, and runs until Sunday, June 12.

A total of 67 events will take place during the nine-day festival, 38 of them free of charge.

One amazing highlight is an evening with showbiz legend Des O’Connor at Martlets Hall (7.30pm, June 11).

There’s also tribute to one of pop’s greatest bands with Re-Take That (Martlets Hall, 8pm, June 10) and an opportunity for people to handle exotic reptiles and other creatures at Wild About Mid Sussex in the Festival Marquee (10am, June 4).

Plus, Jay Miller’s Circus is coming to town (June 7, Fairfield Recreation Ground).

On Sunday, June 5, the Festival Marquee will host children’s entertainer Brillo the Clown followed by Afternoon Tea and Music in the Marquee with The Jazz Dukes and an evening of Classics in the Park with Burgess Hill Symphony Orchestra.

There will be a variety of music on offer for all tastes with folk double-bill Phillip Henry and Hannah Martin, plus the Jim Causley Trio, at the Martlet’s Hall on June 4 (8pm).

The Fretful Federation Mandolin Orchestra makes a welcome return to St John’s Church on Tuesday, June 7 (7.30pm).

Music lovers are also invited to join All The Right Notes community choir on Wednesday, June 8, for Seasons of Song at the Martlets Hall (7.30pm).

The popular Party in the Park returns too with Sussex bands covering six decades of music in St John’s Park (12pm-8pm, June 11).

There are festival talks, art and photography exhibitions, and plenty of opportunities for adults and children to get involved in a range of crafts and other creative activities.

Other events include a family history coffee morning, a discussion with a panel of crime writers, an amateur radio open evening and a festival quiz, plus an evening of traditional pub games.

For the more active there are festival walks, a Bollywood Dance event, croquet lessons, gymnastics and Ultimate Outdoor Training bootcamp taster sessions, plus the annual Burgess Hill Bike Ride.

The 24th annual Burgess Hill Bike Ride offers a choice of 10, 20 or 40 mile routes through the countryside on Sunday, June 5 .

The festival concludes with fun for all the family at the traditional Summer Fayre in St John’s Park on Sunday, June 12, which includes a children’s tea party in celebration of The Queen’s 90th Birthday.
