The open air performances take place on July 2, 3, 10 and 11 at 7.45pm in the beautifully intimate garden of Arun House, Denne Road, Horsham.

Dating from the 1500s, Arun House was once home to the Shelley family and the poet Percy Bysshe Shelley visited his grandfather there to seek funding for his early works.

The late 18th century facade created by old Sir Bysshe promises to provide a wonderfully fitting backdrop to this innovative production.

Unlike Austen’s more famous later novels, Lady Susan is very rarely performed in any guise; yet for playwright and Austen fan Kathryn Attwood it is a particular favourite.

“Lady Susan herself is such a compelling character,” she said.

“Witty, sexy, outrageous – you can’t help rooting for her, even though her morals are completely and hilariously skewed! This early work makes a fabulously funny play and deserves to be better known.”

The garden opens at 7pm and audiences are encouraged to bring a picnic (and a bottle or two) for the perfect summer evening’s entertainment.
